Wastewater Treatment for Tobacco Companies
Huge amount of industrial wastewater is generated, as a result of tobacco processing and cigarettes making processes. This wastewater should be managed properly to prevent any damage to environment and people health. Most important sources of the toxic contaminant in tobacco wastewater are nicotine, pesticides from tobacco leaves, absorb-able organic halogens (AOX) and flavoring chemicals which contain glycogen and alcohol.
In order to remove and degrade the pollutants of tobacco wastewater, biological treatment with nutrient removal (BNR) is used. Membrane bioreactor (MBR), dissolved air floatation (DAF) and activated sludge processes are the examples of tobacco wastewater treatment methods. Treatment method is selected according to the characteristics of tobacco wastewater.
